saturday shopping

*
there are quite a few stores i've been wanting to check out, but just have been too busy (or too lazy) to get to. here are the few i managed to get to today before i passed out from walking too much.

first stop: century 21 department store.

century 21 is the gargantuan of discount shopping department stores in the city. i've been wanting to see what it's all about...and was greatly disappointed. it has all the high-end label names...but the choice of merchandise is no better (if not worse) than loehmann's. also, the separate century 21 shoe store could not even match the breadth and volume of shoes at the DSW in union square. that being said, i did see some nice suiting at a reasonable price from rebecca taylor, but no sizes unfortunately. loehmann's vs century 21? i'll take loehmann's. (on a related note...the defunct virgin megastore space in union square is set to become my favourites of the discount stores--nordstrom's rack, spring 2010).

second stop: topshop.

the topshop in soho is the first store in the US. i've been to topshop before in europe, including UK, and everytime i go in, i wonder why i did. i just don't understand why it's so popular. the store in soho is huge, including a topman shop and a shoe salon. i was tempted to drop by because of the currently advertised sale of spring/summer merch. in terms of clothes, yeah sure, kate moss line...blah, blah, blah....but really, the clothing totally reminds me of overpriced forever 21. the shoe salon was meh. the only saving grace would be the costume jewelry (also overpriced), unless you choose something from the sale rack.

third stop: white house black market.

my sister-in-law introduced me to white house black market, which is popular in hawaii (and west coast). there's a single store in the city near union square. i have a few pieces from this reasonably-priced store. it has nice stuff for work in terms of dresses, skirts and sweaters. the store in the city is extremely small, and i didn't see anything that i liked from the spring/summer merch.

i also went to express (disappointing) and sephora (to pick up some needed philosophy products).

on the agenda tomorrow: more on-call.
